What is a pocket diaper? TOP

Pocket diapers are called pockets because they have two layers, an outer waterproof layer and a soft layer that touches your baby’s bottom. They are sewn together on three sides and the last side is left open. This opening between the layers forms a pocket where you stuff the insert. Inserts may be included or they can be purchased separately. Some of the most common choices for inserts include microfiber, hemp, and folded prefold diapers.

The outer waterproof layer helps to prevent your baby’s clothes and bedding from getting wet. The liner that touches your baby is usually a very soft fleece. The fleece does not hold moisture (but it may become moist when your baby wets) and the liquid passes though onto the insert which is inside the pocket. Pocket diapers fasten with either snaps or a hook and loop closure. When you change your baby's diapers, do not try reuse the diaper by replacing the insert. You must put on a new diaper.

These are great because you can customize the absorbency by what you stuff them with. You can even stuff two inserts into the diaper. I like to use a hemp/microfiber combination overnight use with the microfiber placed on top of the hemp or a Ducky Buns Power Soaker.

What exactly is a one-size pocket diaper? Will it fit my child? TOP

One-size (OS) diapers adjust from small to large and are designed to fit average sized babies throughout their diapering years. This means that smaller newborns may not fit into the diaper for a few months. Larger babies may eventually outgrow them.  It really depends on your baby. If your baby does not fit into small, medium, or large, chances are they will not fit into a OS diaper.

Should I invest in cloth wipes? TOP

Cloth wipes are very convenient when you are cloth diapering. In my opinion, it’s a lot easier than dragging out a tub of disposable wipes. When you use disposable wipes, you have to make sure they get thrown into the trash - not in the diaperpail with the cloth diaper. With cloth wipes, you just toss them into the diaper pail with the diaper. Plus, it’s so nice not to have to buy wipes every week! You can buy them or make them yourself.

Another thing to consider is that some babies are sensitive to some of the disposable wipes. My youngest child is sensitive to disposable wipes, but I have had great success using cloth wipes and a spray bottle filled with a gentle wipes solution.
